Governor Flags-off Construction of New Flyovers

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has officially flagged off the construction of a flyover bridge at Ramat Park, Benin City, marking a significant milestone in his administration’s commitment to addressing traffic congestion and enhancing urban mobility in the state capital. This groundbreaking project is part of a broader initiative to improve transportation infrastructure and deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of Edo State.

In a statement released by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, it was disclosed that the administration has also planned the construction of two additional flyovers at Dawson Road Junction and Sapele Road/Adesuwa Road Junction, both located in Benin City. These projects aim to reduce the city's persistent gridlock, foster economic growth, and improve the overall quality of life for residents and commuters.

During the flag-off ceremony, Governor Okpebholo highlighted the strategic importance of Ramat Park as a gateway to Benin City and other parts of Nigeria. He emphasized that the flyover would facilitate seamless movement for motorists and commuters along the Benin-Auchi Expressway and Benin-Asaba Expressway, two critical corridors connecting various regions of the country.

In his address, the governor stated, “Today, we witness the beginning of a transformative project that will enhance the economic and social fortunes of our capital city and the entire state. The Ramat Park Flyover will provide a new lease of life for motorists and communities along these important corridors.”

Governor Okpebholo reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to fulfilling campaign promises, noting that the flyover project was conceptualized during his campaign as a solution to the city's traffic challenges. Remarkably, this project is being initiated just one week into his tenure as governor.

In addition to easing traffic, the governor underscored the historical and cultural significance of Benin City. “Benin City was the first capital city in Africa visited by Europeans in the 14th century. We must restore its grandeur and create a conducive environment for tourism and development,” he stated. He also assured the public that all necessary legal and procedural guidelines would be adhered to in executing the project.

The Ramat Park Flyover represents the first of several infrastructure projects planned by the Okpebholo administration to modernize Edo State. The governor expressed optimism that these initiatives would position Benin City as a model of urban development while addressing the pressing needs of its growing population.

Governor Okpebholo’s announcement has been met with widespread acclaim from residents and stakeholders, who have commended the administration’s swift action and vision for a more efficient and accessible Benin City.
