Governor Orders Immediate Arrest of Six Ministry of Health Staff Over Alleged Diversion, Sale of Materials

Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has directed the immediate arrest and prosecution of Mr. Ndukwe Ayansi and five other staff members of the State Ministry of Health for their alleged involvement in the diversion and unauthorized sale of government materials. This directive follows the Governor's unannounced inspection, which uncovered the illicit activities.

In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Dr. Monday Uzor, it was disclosed that the Governor, while en route to inspect state government projects, noticed a Toyota Dyana truck being loaded with registers, books, and other materials from the Ministry of Health's warehouse. Acting on his observations, the Governor entered the secretariat to investigate the situation.

Upon further inquiry, it was revealed that the truck had been loaded with critical documents, including patients’ data registers, cards, and other hospital-related forms, which had already been sold without any government authorization. Governor Nwifuru expressed his dismay at the discovery, describing it as a deliberate act of sabotage aimed at undermining the government’s efforts to revitalize the health sector.

Speaking at the scene, the Governor remarked, “You are selling government documents without approval on a Saturday afternoon. Our hospitals in rural areas are requesting registers, data entry forms, and hospital cards. Sadly, the ones the government has produced are being sold by you.”

The Governor emphasized the gravity of the situation, noting that such acts of misconduct directly impede the delivery of healthcare services, particularly in rural communities that are in urgent need of these materials.

The suspects have since been handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution. Governor Nwifuru reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability, warning that similar acts of sabotage would not be tolerated.

This development underscores the Governor's dedication to safeguarding public resources and ensuring that government efforts to improve service delivery in the health sector are not undermined by unethical practices.
