BREAKING: 20 K!lled in South Sudan Plane Crash Today

A tragic plane crash in northern South Sudan has left at least 20 people dead, with only one survivor. The crash occurred on January 29, 2025, around 10:30 a.m. local time near the oil fields in Unity State, shortly after the aircraft took off from the airport heading to Juba, the capital.

The plane, a Ukrainian-chartered flight operated by Light Air Services Aviation Company, was carrying 21 people, all employees of the Greater Pioneer Operating Company (GPOC). Of those aboard, 16 were South Sudanese nationals, and the others included two Chinese nationals and one Indian.

Authorities have confirmed that the lone survivor, a South Sudanese engineer, was transported to Bentiu State Hospital for medical treatment. The cause of the crash is under investigation, with early reports suggesting a mechanical failure.

This incident is the latest in a series of deadly plane crashes in South Sudan, where unreliable transport infrastructure has contributed to frequent aviation accidents.
