Police Raid Brothels, Arrest Six Female Suspected Illicit Drug Traffickers in Akwa Ibom



The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has conducted a raid on strategic black spots, including brothels and hotels, in some local government areas of the state, resulting in the arrest of six female suspected drug traffickers.

During a media briefing at the command headquarters in Ikot Akpan-Abia, Uyo, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, identified the suspects as Happiness Malachi George, Queen Sambo Umoren, Joy Chima, Inyene-Obong Patrick Michael, Rose Anietie Bassey, and Sarah Iniobong Sunday.

The suspects have confessed to their involvement in the drug trade, and substances suspected to be Indian hemp, ice, and a jackknife were recovered during the operation.

“The operatives of the command conducted a strategic raid targeting identified black spots, including hotels and brothels, and arrested female suspected illicit drug traffickers,” said DSP John.

Additionally, the police also paraded suspected burglars who were found with burglary tools such as cutters and pliers. Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime and provided information that led to the recovery of stolen items, including smart LG TVs, two CCTV cameras, electric cables, and other household items.

The police spokesperson detailed that, on January 20, 2025, a complaint was lodged by a resident whose apartment had been burgled and valuable items were stolen. Based on credible information, the police arrested two suspects, Moses Godwin Ndiong and Abraham Godwill Eshiet, both males from Eket LGA. The suspects were found with burglary tools and confessed to the crime, helping the police recover the stolen items.

The Police Spokesperson emphasized that the Command, under the leadership of CP Baba Mohammed Azare, is committed to ridding the state of crime and criminality. She also urged the public to provide credible information to assist the police in their operations.
