Enugu First Lady, Mrs Nkechinyere Mbah Honours Enugu Women In a Historic Event
The wife of the Governor of Enugu State, Her Excellency, Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, hosted the women of Enugu State in a prestigious event titled "Celebrating Great Women of Substance." The event, held on Sunday, saw an impressive turnout of women from all walks of life, including the wives of local government council chairmen and women leaders from the 17 local government areas of the state.
The event was a remarkable celebration of women's contributions and leadership excellence in the state. It served as a platform to acknowledge and appreciate the pivotal roles women play at various levels of governance and community development. The atmosphere was filled with love, camaraderie, and merriment as the women shared moments of joy and encouragement.
Represented by the wife of the Honourable Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Mrs. Ugwu, the First Lady, Her Excellency, Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, expressed profound appreciation to the women for their unwavering commitment to the progress of Enugu State. She commended their resilience and dedication in shaping the state’s socio-political landscape.
In her speech, Mrs. Mbah called on women to rise to contemporary challenges, particularly those confronting the girl child. She urged them to be good ambassadors of Enugu State in all spheres of life, emphasizing that the future holds great promise for women who take proactive steps in shaping society. Stressing the importance of unity and collective action, she encouraged the women to spread love abundantly, especially at the grassroots level, and to actively champion women’s causes through partnerships with government and relevant agencies.
A significant highlight of the event was the health enlightenment session delivered by the wife of the Chairman of Udi Local Government Council, Mrs. Ogbonnia Agu, a pharmacist by profession. She sensitized the women on critical health issues, particularly the dangers of self-medication.
The next resource person delved into the complex hormonal changes women experience, from pre-menopause to menopause while also passionately appealed that men should be more understanding and supportive of their wives during these transitional phases, emphasizing the need for patience and emotional support.The wives of the council chairmen took turns to extol the virtues of the First Lady, Her Excellency, Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah. They spoke in unison, affirming her dedication to humanitarian causes and her unwavering commitment to grassroots development. They described her as a woman of grace, humility, and deep compassion, highlighting her passion for touching lives and addressing pressing societal issues.
The Wife of Igbo-Eze South Local Government Council, Barr. Mrs. Ugo-Ferdnand, showered praises on the First Lady, particularly for her philanthropic efforts through the Custos Care Foundation. Other council chairmen’s wives also took turns to express their heartfelt appreciation, reinforcing the unity and collective resolve among the women.
In her closing remarks, the leader of the wives of the 17 local government chairmen in Enugu State, Mrs. Rita Edeh, who is also the Wife of Enugu State ALGON Chairman and the Chairman of Nkanu East Local Government Council, extended her gratitude to all the women present.
