A major political mobilisation milestone was recorded in Enugu East Local Government Area on Tuesday, April 21, 2027, as the grassroots political movement, G-17 For Peter Mbah, carried out a massive inauguration of its Local Government Executives , Ward Executives and  Polling Unit Canvassers in a well-attended ceremony that drew key stakeholders and political leaders from across the council area.

The event, which took place at the Enugu East Local Government Secretariat, witnessed a strong show of unity and commitment toward the re-election of the Governor of Enugu State, Barr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, as political actors across the LGA openly declared their support for the governor’s second-term ambition.

In a significant highlight of the occasion, the Executive Chairman of Enugu East LGA, Engr. Pastor Beloved Dan Anike, officially Signed and Endorsed Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for a second term in office and appended his signature to the G-17 Endorsement Register, signaling his full alignment with the group’s mobilisation agenda.

Addressing the newly inaugurated executives and stakeholders, the council chairman congratulated them on their emergence and assured them of his readiness to work closely with the G-17 structure in advancing grassroots mobilisation across the local government.

He commended Governor Mbah for what he described as unprecedented development strides in Enugu State, noting that Enugu East Local Government has remained one of the major beneficiaries of the administration’s transformative policies and projects.

Engr. Anike cited key projects including the Eke-Obinagu Flyovers, the rollout of 260 Smart Green Schools, the establishment of Type-C Primary Healthcare Centres, the rehabilitation of Niger Gas, and the ongoing dualisation of the Ugwogo-Opi-Nsukka Road, which originates from Enugu East and links several local governments in the Enugu North Senatorial Zone.

According to him, these projects and policy innovations clearly demonstrate the governor’s commitment to sustainable development, adding that such performance justifies the growing calls for his re-election in 2027.

Also speaking at the event, former Chairman of Enugu East Local Government and former member representing Enugu East/Isi-Uzo Federal Constituency, Honourable Cornelius Nnaji, described Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah as a Godsent leader to the people of Enugu East.

He charged the Convener of G-17 to convey to the governor that the people of Enugu East are fully and unwaveringly behind him, declaring that the governor would not need to campaign in the area due to the overwhelming support he already enjoys.

Hon. Nnaji described G-17 as an organic and formidable grassroots structure, emphasizing that the calibre of men and women inaugurated as coordinators and canvassers are seasoned mobilisers who have remained active in grassroots politics over the years.

“These are not political appointees or office holders; they are grassroots mobilisers who understand the terrain and have worked over the years, even during my time as chairman. With this structure, victory is assured,” he stated.

In his remarks, the Member representing Enugu East Rural Constituency in the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Raymond Okechukwu Ugwu, expressed delight in associating with the G-17 movement, describing it as one of the most credible grassroots political platforms in the state.

“G-17 is the oldest grassroots support group in Enugu State, and that is why I proudly identify with it,” he said, while pledging continued support for the group’s activities.

Adding her voice, the National Women Leader of G-17 For Peter Mbah, Hon. Princess Chinelo Ogbata Ejorh, called on women among the newly inaugurated executives to take the lead in house-to-house sensitisation  aimed at educating communities on the achievements of Governor Mbah and the need to support his re-election.

She emphasized the critical role women play in grassroots mobilisation and urged them to sustain the tempo of engagement across wards and polling units.

In his keynote address, the Convener, Board of Trustees Chairman, and Director-General of G-17 For Peter Mbah, Hon. Dr. Chinedu Mbah, reaffirmed the commitment of the group to deliver Enugu East for Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah in the 2027 elections.

He assured the Local Government Chairman and stakeholders that the G-17 structure, from LG Executives to ward executives and polling unit canvassers, remains fully mobilised and strategically positioned to drive massive voter support across the council area.

Dr. Mbah also used the opportunity to commend the leadership of the council chairman, Engr. Beloved Dan Anike, for what he described as uncommon leadership and people-oriented initiatives.

He praised the chairman for settling outstanding obligations to former local government chairmen  and  State appointees, providing official vehicles to his supervisors and SPAs, initiating scholarship programmes for over 3,700 Enugu East students across Nigeria, as well as sponsoring youths for aviation training School.

According to him, such investments in human capital development reflect a forward-thinking leadership style aligned with Governor Mbah’s governance philosophy of “Tomorrow Is Here.”

“This is leadership that builds people, not just structures. The impact of these scholarships will be felt in the next decade. What you are doing is commendable, and I urge other local government chairmen to emulate this example,” he stated.

Dr. Mbah congratulated the newly inaugurated executives and charged them to immediately commence ward-to-ward mobilisation, engaging communities and spreading the message of Governor Mbah’s achievements and the need for continuity in governance.

The inauguration in Enugu East is seen as another major consolidation step in the G-17 statewide mobilisation drive, reinforcing the group’s growing influence and grassroots presence across the 17 local government areas of Enugu State.

Recall that G-17 For Peter Mbah has continued to expand its structures through strategic engagements, endorsement register , and grassroots sensitisation programmes, all aimed at securing a resounding mandate for Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah in the 2027 governorship election.
