Uzo-Uwani Will Again Emerge APC's Highest-Voting LGA in 2027 — Council Chairman
...Says G-17 Is the Only Genuine Grassroots-Based Support Group; Declares Uzo-Uwani Will Again Lead APC Votes in 2027
Political activities reached another high point in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area on Friday, July 10, 2026, as the G-17 For Peter Mbah inaugurated its Local Government Executives, Ward Executives and Polling Unit Canvassers at the Uzo-Uwani Local Government Council Secretariat amidst a massive gathering of party faithful, political stakeholders, traditional rulers, women, youths and grassroots mobilisers from across the council.
Welcoming the leadership of G-17, the Executive Chairman of Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area, Hon. Barr. Chijioke Ezeugwu, expressed appreciation to the organisation for extending its statewide mobilisation drive to Uzo-Uwani.
"I have been patiently waiting for the day G-17 would storm Uzo-Uwani. Today, I am delighted that the wait is over," the chairman declared.
He commended the leadership of G-17 for its consistency in grassroots mobilisation across Enugu State, describing the movement as the only support group with a genuine grassroots-based political structure.
"With G-17, APC has less work to do because the movement has already taken politics to the grassroots. This is not a crowd assembled for an event; these are committed grassroots mobilisers," he said.
Hon. Barr. Chijioke Ezeugwu reminded the gathering that Uzo-Uwani demonstrated its political strength during the recent Enugu North Senatorial bye-election that produced Senator Ikeje Asogwa, assuring that the council would surpass that performance in 2027.
"Uzo-Uwani is APC. We proved it during the bye-election, and by the grace of God, we shall again emerge as the highest-voting local government for APC in 2027. With all Governor Peter Mbah has done for our people, every stakeholder is with him. G-17 should not even bother coming here for campaigns because Uzo-Uwani is already one hundred percent for Governor Peter Mbah and all APC candidates," he declared.
Speaking at the event, the APC House of Representatives Candidate for Igbo-Etiti/Uzo-Uwani Federal Constituency, Hon. Cornell Onwubunya, expressed delight over the growth and structure of G-17 across the state.
"I am identifying with G-17 because they are genuinely grassroots-oriented. This movement has made elections easier for APC. I know many of these faces from my days as Chairman of Uzo-Uwani Local Government. They are tested grassroots mobilisers and the right people for election victories. Every APC candidate should identify with and support G-17 because they have brought back experienced political hands capable of winning elections," he stated.
The Former Coordinator of G-17 in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area and former Senior Special Assistant to a former Governor of Enugu State, Hon. Vitalis Okonkwo, reflected on his personal experience with the organisation, describing G-17 as a platform that nurtures political leaders.
"G-17 is a movement that builds men and women. I am one of those who benefited politically through this organisation. Hard work pays. If you remain committed, you too will be remembered politically. The grassroots structure G-17 is building today will make future elections much easier," he advised the newly inaugurated executives.
Representing the Member representing Uzo-Uwani State Constituency in the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Chukwuma Ekwueme, Hon. Joseph Idu reaffirmed the lawmaker's unwavering commitment to G-17.
"Hon. Chukwuma Ekwueme remains a proud member of G-17 and will continue to identify with the movement. G-17 is undoubtedly one of the best grassroots political support groups in Nigeria today," he said.
The APC Chairman of Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area commended G-17 for complementing the efforts of the party.
"We are happy with what G-17 is doing. The movement has galvanised grassroots support and made the work of the party much easier. Through G-17, many committed grassroots leaders who had remained unnoticed have now been identified and brought into active political participation. This is true organic mobilisation," he remarked.
Also speaking, the Legal Adviser of G-17 urged the newly inaugurated executives to remain disciplined, law-abiding and committed to the ideals of the organisation.
He reminded them that political mobilisation must always be conducted peacefully, responsibly and in accordance with the constitution, while encouraging them to sustain issue-based engagement with the electorate.
The State Secretary of G-17 For Peter Mbah congratulated the newly inaugurated executives and urged them to immediately commence grassroots sensitisation.
He reminded them that G-17 was established not merely as another political support group but as a disciplined mobilisation structure committed to delivering electoral victories through community-based engagement and polling-unit organisation.
Speaking on behalf of women across the state, the National Women Leader of G-17 For Peter Mbah, Hon. Princess Chinelo Ogbata Ejorh, called on women in Uzo-Uwani to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and continue supporting Governor Peter Mbah.
She noted that women and children remain among the greatest beneficiaries of the Governor's administration through free education in Smart Green Schools and improved healthcare services at the Type-C Primary Healthcare Centres.
Delivering his keynote address, the Convener, Board of Trustees Chairman and Director-General of G-17 For Peter Mbah, Hon. Dr. Chinedu Mbah, appreciated the Executive Chairman for providing an enabling environment that ensured the success of the inauguration.
He commended Hon. Barr. Chijioke Ezeugwu for the remarkable work being done in Uzo-Uwani, particularly in the areas of security, ongoing renovation of the Local Government Secretariat and road construction projects across the council.
"I sincerely thank the Chairman for his unwavering support for G-17 and for the commendable work he is doing in Uzo-Uwani. His achievements clearly demonstrate his commitment to the vision of Governor Peter Mbah," he said.
Hon. Dr. Mbah also commended the people of Uzo-Uwani for emerging among the best-performing local governments during the recent Enugu North Senatorial bye-election.
"I thank the good people of Uzo-Uwani for taking the lead during the bye-election. You have shown your commitment to the APC, and I urge you to sustain that momentum in 2027," he stated.
Congratulating the newly inaugurated executives, the Director-General reminded them that their inauguration was not merely ceremonial but a call to active political service.
"You have already been converted; your assignment now is to go out and convert others. Move from door to door, ward to ward and polling unit to polling unit, educating our people about the achievements of Governor Peter Mbah and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Victory begins at the grassroots," he charged.
He further highlighted the numerous developmental projects executed by Governor Peter Mbah across Uzo-Uwani and Enugu State, stressing that the administration's investments in education, healthcare, security, infrastructure and rural development had transformed communities across the state.
Hon. Dr. Mbah urged residents to reward performance by returning Governor Peter Mbah, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all APC candidates in the 2027 general elections, assuring them that continuity would attract even greater development to Uzo-Uwani.
The event further strengthened G-17's statewide grassroots mobilisation campaign and witnessed overwhelming endorsements from political leaders and stakeholders across Uzo-Uwani, all pledging to work together to deliver Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all APC candidates in 2027.
Unlike conventional support groups, G-17 For Peter Mbah operates as a disciplined grassroots political structure whose members are carefully selected, sworn into office and required to possess valid Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). The movement continues to distinguish itself through its ward-to-ward and polling-unit mobilisation strategy across the 17 Local Government Areas of Enugu State.
The ceremony climaxed with the inauguration of the Local Government Executives, Ward Executives and Polling Unit Canvassers, who pledged to immediately commence aggressive grassroots mobilisation and voter sensitisation across all communities in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area ahead of the 2027 general election.
