Enugu — Excitement is building across Enugu State as the countdown enters its final stretch for the maiden edition of Peter Eze Youth Connect 2026, a youth-focused initiative designed to bridge the gap between young people and the opportunities available to them through government institutions, the private sector and the wider national and global ecosystem.

The much-anticipated programme is scheduled to hold on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at the International Conference Centre (ICC), Enugu, under the theme, “Beyond Quotas: Unlocking Opportunities for Enugu Youths Through the Federal Character Commission.”

The initiative is being convened by the Federal Commissioner representing Enugu State at the Federal Character Commission, Hon. Peter Ogbonna Eze, who has described the engagement as an opportunity to move the conversation on youth development beyond rhetoric and towards practical access, knowledge and action.

With the event now only a week away, interest has continued to rise among young people across the state, particularly graduates, students, entrepreneurs, job seekers, professionals and aspiring young leaders seeking clearer pathways to career advancement and economic opportunities.

At the heart of Peter Eze Youth Connect is the recognition that the challenge facing many young Nigerians is not always the complete absence of opportunities, but the difficulty of discovering them, understanding the requirements and successfully navigating the processes required to access them.

The programme is therefore expected to focus on equipping participants with relevant information and practical insights on employment opportunities, scholarships, grants, fellowships, internships, entrepreneurship support, government programmes, digital opportunities, career development and leadership pathways.

Rather than creating another platform where young people merely listen to speeches, the organisers are presenting the initiative as an avenue for meaningful engagement, knowledge-sharing and connection to credible opportunity channels.

Eze said the vision behind the programme was to empower young people with the information and orientation required to compete for opportunities on a broader scale.

“Our objective is to help young people understand where legitimate opportunities exist, how to identify them, how to apply, what is required, and how to position themselves for success,” Eze said.

He noted that a significant number of Nigerian youths possess the academic qualifications, creativity, entrepreneurial ideas and determination to succeed but are sometimes disadvantaged because they receive information about relevant opportunities too late or do not know how to navigate the application process.

According to him, closing that information gap is essential to ensuring that young people are not excluded from opportunities simply because they lack access to the right information or guidance.

The Federal Commissioner further encouraged Enugu youths to see the forthcoming engagement as a starting point for taking greater responsibility for their personal and professional advancement.

He stressed the need for young people to move beyond waiting for opportunities to come to them, urging them to develop the skills, confidence and awareness required to identify opportunities and pursue them competitively.

The programme is expected to bring together young people from across the 17 Local Government Areas of Enugu State, creating a diverse audience of individuals at different stages of their educational, professional, entrepreneurial and leadership journeys.

For participants, the significance of the event could extend beyond the venue itself, particularly if the information and connections generated during the engagement translate into applications for jobs, scholarships, grants, fellowships, training programmes and other opportunities.
