NELFUND Extends Financial Relief to 226 UNIBEN Students With ₦21.54m Disbursement
The University of Benin (UNIBEN) has confirmed the receipt of ₦21,540,800 from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) to support 226 students during the 2025/2026 academic session.
The university's Registrar, Bimpe Omoyiwola, fcpm, disclosed the development in an official acknowledgement addressed to the NELFUND Managing Director and dated August 3, 2026.
The payment was made through two tranches. A total of ₦19,118,700 was disbursed for 200 students, while another ₦2,422,100 was provided for 26 students, bringing the combined beneficiaries to 226.
UNIBEN management expressed its appreciation to NELFUND and the Federal Government, describing the student loan initiative as an important intervention that is helping Nigerian students access and sustain tertiary education despite financial challenges.
The university also pledged to uphold transparency and accountability in the utilisation of the funds and to comply fully with the operational guidelines of the scheme.
The latest intervention underscores the continuing expansion of NELFUND's student financing programme, as more beneficiaries receive assistance toward their institutional charges and are afforded greater opportunity to continue their academic programmes without financial interruptions.
