Sit-At-Home: Soludo Stands Firm, Says Anambra will Never Yield To Non-State Actors

Gov. Charles Soludo

Anambra State, Nigeria - In response to the recent threat issued by Simon Ekpa, the factional leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), to enforce another sit-at-home protest in the South East geopolitical zone, the Anambra State government has made it clear that it will not succumb to the demands of non-state actors.

In a statement released on Thursday by Christian Aburime, the press secretary to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, the state government denounced Ekpa as a fugitive and called for his complete disregard. The government emphasized that Anambra State, under Governor Soludo's leadership, would not yield to the illegal sit-at-home order imposed by non-state actors.

Aburime reiterated that the imposition of sit-at-home orders by unauthorized individuals or groups is a direct violation of the law. Anambra State firmly declared its commitment to keeping markets, schools, businesses, and other social activities open, regardless of the threats. The government affirmed that it would not allow the state to become a breeding ground for anarchy, fear, or lawlessness.

The statement reflects the determination of the Anambra State government to maintain peace, security, and normalcy within the state. Governor Soludo's administration seeks to protect the rights of its citizens and uphold the rule of law, dismissing the authority of non-state actors attempting to impose their will.

The threat of another sit-at-home protest in the South East region has raised concerns about its potential impact on the economy and daily life of residents. Previous sit-at-home orders have resulted in disruptions to business activities, transportation, and overall social interaction. The Anambra State government's firm stance against such orders highlights its commitment to ensuring the welfare and prosperity of its people.

In response to the government's statement, various stakeholders, including civil society organizations and business associations, have expressed their support for the decision not to comply with the sit-at-home order. They emphasized the importance of maintaining stability and economic growth in the region, urging residents to carry on with their daily activities.

It remains to be seen how the situation will unfold in the coming days, and whether other states in the South East region will adopt a similar stance against the sit-at-home order. As the date specified by Simon Ekpa for the protest approaches, the state government's resolute position underscores its determination to resist the influence of non-state actors and prioritize the well-being of its people.
