Breaking! Jubilation As Governor Approves N75,000 as New Minimum Wage For State Civil Servants

In a significant development for workers in Kebbi State, Governor Nasir Idris has approved a new minimum wage of N75,000 for state civil servants. The announcement, made on Wednesday, follows extensive discussions between the state government and the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC).

Murtala Usman, the chairman of the NLC in Kebbi State, confirmed the decision during an interview. According to Usman, the NLC presented the governor with three options—N72,000, N73,000, and N75,000—and Governor Idris chose the highest figure. This decision reflects his commitment to supporting workers in the state.

“Mr. Governor has shown that he is with the workers in the state. We proposed three tables for him—N72,000, N73,000, and N75,000—and he decided to go for the N75,000, which shows he is for the workers,” Usman stated.

Additionally, Governor Idris directed that the new wage be implemented immediately, with October salaries to reflect the increase. Workers can expect to receive their payments within the next 72 hours, marking a swift implementation of the policy.

Meanwhile, labor leaders in neighboring Sokoto State have called on their government to follow Kebbi’s example and accelerate actions toward adopting a new minimum wage for their workers.

Governor Idris’s decision has been met with widespread approval from workers and unions, who have long advocated for better compensation in the face of rising living costs. This move is expected to provide significant relief to civil servants and bolster their morale.
