Four Suspects Planning Attack Apprehended by Police, Ammunitions Recovered

Marking a great victory for law enforcement, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested four suspects believed to have been plotting a large-scale attack on government institutions and estates in Abuja during the Independence Day celebrations. The arrest, made on October 1, 2024, followed an intelligence-led operation that thwarted what could have been a devastating incident in the nation's capital.

According to the FCT Police Command spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, the suspects were apprehended in their hideout in Sauka, a suburb of Abuja, where they were planning the attack. The four men—Yau Sani, also known as Baba (an ex-convict), Nuhu, a.k.a. Giwa, Kabiru Mohammed, and Yusuf Hassan—have a notorious history of involvement in criminal activities, including kidnappings and murders across multiple states.

Adeh revealed that the suspects had been operating across the FCT, Kaduna, and Niger, where they were involved in multiple kidnappings and the brutal killing of seven victims. Their activities have instilled fear in communities, as they targeted several areas, including Dakwa, Dawaki, Aco Estate, Dupe Village, Zuma Rock, and Kuchiko Village. The gang's criminal exploits extended into Niger and Kaduna States, where they left a trail of terrorized communities and devastated families.

During the operation, the suspects led the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the FCT Police Command to a forest in Niger State, where they had concealed a cache of weapons. Four AK-47 rifles and 175 rounds of ammunition were recovered from the site, further solidifying the case against the criminals. Additionally, the gang led officers to another hideout in the Gauraka Forest in Suleja, Niger State, where law enforcement uncovered 13 AK-47 magazines and 162 rounds of live ammunition.

The police also uncovered that the gang had been planning to attack several government institutions and residential estates in the FCT. Thanks to swift action by the FCT Police Command, these plans were foiled before any further harm could be inflicted on the nation’s capital.

In her statement, Adeh emphasized the FCT Police Command's commitment to eliminating crime and safeguarding public safety. She urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities through the police emergency lines.

“The public’s cooperation is crucial to maintaining security in the FCT,” she said, assuring that the police will continue to work tirelessly to protect the citizens from criminal elements. This arrest marks another success in the ongoing effort to curb crime in the FCT, providing a sense of relief for residents as the police continue their crackdown on criminal activities in the region.
