BREAKING: More Shocking Alleged Plot to Rig UNN Convocation Election Exposed

A disturbing report has emerged from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), where allegations of manipulation and a potential rigging plot for the upcoming convocation representative election in the university's governing council have caused widespread outrage. The acting vice chancellor, Professor Chigbu, is said to be involved in a scandalous scheme, backed by a powerful student leader, Emeka Udo, to manipulate the election results and install Udo as the convocation representative, despite the lack of transparency and fairness in the process.

On November 7, 2024, the UNN acting vice chancellor convened a convocation meeting through the university’s registrar to inform graduates of the guidelines for participating in the election. The guidelines, which had been the standard procedure for years, required graduates to update their membership through the university portal and pay a 200 Naira fee. Participants were also required to submit their credentials for verification by the university’s career department before November 19, 2024.

The election process appeared to be running smoothly, with many candidates mobilizing graduates and encouraging them to register in accordance with the guidelines. However, rumors began circulating that Emeka Udo, a former student of UNN who is rumored to have a significant influence on the acting vice chancellor, was secretly working behind the scenes to manipulate the election outcome in his favor.

Emeka Udo, who is not an official staff member of the university, is widely believed to be a key figure in the appointment of various university administrators, including the Dean of Students' Affairs. Sources within the university community have also alleged that Udo played a crucial role in influencing the acting vice chancellor's selection, casting him as a "puppet" controlled by Udo's personal interests.

On November 21, 2024, in what many see as an act of blatant manipulation, the UNN administration issued a controversial counter-memo, backdated to November 14, 2024. This memo effectively nullified thousands of registration updates made through the official university portal, a process that had already been followed by a large number of graduates. In its place, the administration introduced a new online registration platform outside the university's official ICT department, with a new payment system that raised serious concerns about transparency and security.

The timing of this memo's release, coinciding with Udo's sudden public declaration of his intention to contest in the election, has fueled suspicions that this entire process is designed to favor him. The new registration website and the company that allegedly created it have no affiliation with the university’s ICT department, raising questions about its reliability and vulnerability to tampering. Furthermore, no provisions were made for those who had already registered through the official university portal.

Sources have claimed that the company behind the website is linked to Udo, further intensifying fears of a rigged election. With no clear means of verifying voters, and no testing to ensure the integrity of the new system, the university community is in uproar.

In light of these developments, there has been a growing outcry among alumni, faculty, and students, who have expressed concerns that this manipulation could irreparably damage the reputation of UNN and disrupt the peaceful academic environment. In a public appeal, stakeholders are urging the Pro-Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and the Honourable Minister of Education to intervene before the situation spirals out of control.

"This is a devilish plot to rig the election for one man's selfish interest," one concerned graduate stated. "We cannot allow this manipulation to go unchallenged. The integrity of UNN is at stake."

The university community has long prided itself on its rigorous academic standards and democratic processes. The introduction of an outside online election system with no accountability threatens to undermine these values, creating a climate of distrust and unrest.

The University of Nigeria, Nsukka, is at a critical juncture. The current efforts to manipulate the election for the convocation representative are casting a shadow over the university's esteemed history. The administration’s hasty actions, including the backdated memo and the introduction of a questionable online platform, have sparked fears of a flawed and unfair election process.

This situation calls for immediate intervention from both the federal government and the university's governing council. The integrity of the election must be upheld to prevent further damage to the reputation of one of Nigeria’s leading academic institutions. The time to act is now to protect the values of fairness, transparency, and justice at UNN.
