  The coalition of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and concerned citizens have decried silence of the region's governors and commissioners of education over the 2025 JAMB's Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). The JAMB leadership recently admitted and took responsibility of the widespread irregularities and apparent systemic failures that marred the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in South-East and some areas in Lagos State. The 17 CSOs and 12 concerned citizens in a three-page statement, which was fully jointly signed on Tuesday in Enugu, described the "conspicuous silence from the executive arm of South-East governments as both worrisome, perplexing and unsettling."   The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has appointed renowned political strategist, party administrator and public affairs analyst, Steve Oruruo, as Chairman of its South East Zonal Disciplinary Committee. The announcement was made during a closed-door meeting of the PDP South East Zonal Executive Committee, as the party moves to reinforce internal discipline and ensure stability in the zone ahead of key political realignments. Other members of the committee include respected legal luminary, Clem Ezika, SAN, who will serve as Secretary, while Sir Tony Ezebuiro, Chief Emeka Irem, and Barr. In a decisive move to curb extortion and illegal revenue collection in local markets, the Enugu State Market Monitoring Team and The Staff of Enugu State Revenue Services have apprehended several individuals allegedly involved in the collection of unauthorized levies from traders at Orie Nara Market in Nkanu East Local Government Area. The operation, which took place this morning, Tuesday, 6th of May 2025, was carried out by a Special Taskforce Team under the Enugu State Market Liaison Office,  led by Hon. Dr. Chinedu Mbah, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Market Liaison and the Enugu State Revenue Service. The raid involved both government agents and members of the Market Taskforce Team, who acted swiftly following credible intelligence on the illegal activities.
