  The Enugu State Police Command has officially stopped the proposed New Yam Festival (Iri-Ji) in Mburubu Ancient Kingdom until further notice, citing that it is capable of breaching public peace and order. In an official communication dated 31st October 2025 and addressed to the Council of Mburubu Cabinet High Chiefs and Chijioke Obueze & Co., Legal Practitioners and Solicitors, the Command, after extensive consultations with His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Enugu State, directed that the planned New Yam (Iri-Ji) by both contending parties be put on hold until further notice.   The Executive Chairman of Nkanu West Local Government Area,  Hon. John Chukwuma Ogbodo , has commended the  Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah , for his unwavering commitment to the security of lives and property in the state, particularly his firm resolve in tackling the menace of kidnapping. Hon. Ogbodo made the commendation on Tuesday during the demolition of a bungalow at  Umueze Awkunanaw  in Nkanu West LGA, which was used as a hideout by a kidnapping syndicate. The demolition, he noted, was in strict accordance with the laws of Enugu State and Governor Mbah’s standing directive that any property used to harbour or aid criminal activity would be pulled down. Tragedy has struck again in Enugu State as two cousins, Onyebuchi Odo and Chinwe Uroko , both from Isuike Umabor in Nsukka Local Government Area , were reportedly kidnapped on the night of Saturday, 19th October 2025 .
