Happening In Enugu! Police Put Mburubu Iri-Ji Festival on Hold After Governor’s Consultation
The Enugu State Police Command has officially stopped the proposed New Yam Festival (Iri-Ji) in Mburubu Ancient Kingdom until further notice, citing that it is capable of breaching public peace and order. In an official communication dated 31st October 2025 and addressed to the Council of Mburubu Cabinet High Chiefs and Chijioke Obueze & Co., Legal Practitioners and Solicitors, the Command, after extensive consultations with His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Enugu State, directed that the planned New Yam (Iri-Ji) by both contending parties be put on hold until further notice. The directive, issued under reference number CB: 7000/ENS/VOL.101/5, was signed by DCP Alalade D. Adio, psc, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DFA), for the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command.
