COMPASSION: PNM Care Initiative Touches Lives, Saves the Elderly, Carries Governor Peter Mbah’s Inclusive Governance to the Doorsteps of Rural Dwellers

PNM Care Initiative is Delivering Lifesaving Healthcare to Rural Enugu and Strengthening Governor Peter Mbah’s Legacy of Inclusive Governance. The Peter Ndubuisi Mba Care Initiative (PNM Care Initiative) stands as a powerful testament to the commitment of Governor Dr. Barr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah to the wellbeing of Enugu State’s most vulnerable citizens. Spearheaded by dedicated ambassadors of the governor, this targeted health outreach program focuses on the aging population in rural communities, where access to quality medical services has historically been limited. By bringing comprehensive, free healthcare directly to doorsteps in hard-to-reach areas, the initiative addresses critical gaps in preventive and curative care while reinforcing the administration’s people-centered agenda.

The program offers an impressive array of services tailored to the needs of older adults. Men benefit from Digital Rectal Examination (DRE) and Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) testing for early detection of prostate issues. All participants receive random or fasting blood glucose testing, blood pressure measurement, cardiovascular risk assessment, urinalysis, rapid Hepatitis B surface antigen screening with vaccination for those testing negative, malaria rapid diagnostic testing and treatment, and comprehensive dental examination with basic treatments including scaling, fillings, and extractions. Eye care is equally prioritized, with visual acuity testing, refraction, cataract identification, and free distribution of reading or medicated glasses. On-site pharmacies dispense essential medications such as antihypertensives, antidiabetics, analgesics, antibiotics, antimalarials, and more, while complicated cases are referred to partner secondary and tertiary facilities for continued care.

A highly skilled multidisciplinary team powers the outreach: five general medical doctors, two resident doctors, one physiotherapist, one dentist, one ophthalmologist, one optometrist, five pharmacists, ten professional nurses, and ten student nurses visited Ogwu community on 24th January 2026 and over 200 patients were treated. This robust lineup ensures professional, efficient, and compassionate service delivery. The numbers reflect not just attendance, but lives touched and future restored.

For many elderly residents in the community, the outreach represents their first opportunity in years to receive specialist screening and treatment without traveling long distances or incurring unaffordable costs. Early detection of hypertension, diabetes, and prostate conditions has enabled timely intervention, preventing complications that could otherwise lead to hospitalization or disability. Malaria treatment on the spot has provided immediate relief in an area where the disease remains prevalent. Dental care has alleviated chronic pain from untreated cavities and gum disease, while Hepatitis B screening and vaccination offer long-term protection against a silent killer. These interventions go beyond immediate relief, they empower rural seniors to remain active contributors to their families and communities. By addressing preventive and curative needs in one visit, the program reduces the economic and physical burden of seeking care elsewhere, allowing families to redirect limited resources toward food, education, and other essentials.

The good people of Ogwu community led by Enugu state commissioner for Energy and mineral resources Hon Enyinaa Franklin Ogbonna thanked the executive governor of Enugu state for bringing such life saving interventions to their people just as the beneficiaries were all full of praises and prayers for the governor.

Peter Ndubuisi Mba Care Initiative is more than a health program, it is a bridge between government and people, a lifeline for the elderly in rural Enugu, and a strategic tool for building lasting trust in Governor Mbah’s administration. With over 1000 patients already served and more communities on the horizon, the initiative continues to save lives, restore dignity, and cement the governor’s reputation as a champion of inclusive development.
