NEWS-FLASH! Enugu Former Lawmaker, Rt. Hon. Ikechukwu Ezeugwu Joins ADC, Declares Mission to Rescue Udenu/Igboeze North Constituency
Udunedem Ward in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State recently witnessed a remarkable gathering of residents, political stakeholders, and supporters who turned out in large numbers to witness the formal declaration of Rt. Hon. Ikechukwu Ezeugwu, PhD, for the Udenu/Igboeze North Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The event, which many attendees described as a significant political moment for the constituency, was marked by enthusiasm and jubilation from constituents who came to show solidarity with the former Leader of the Enugu State House of Assembly as he officially picked his membership card of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The card was presented to him by the Ward Chairman, Hon. Osmond Ugwu, symbolizing his formal entry into the party and his readiness to the federal legislative seat under the ADC platform.
Supporters who thronged the venue expressed excitement over Ezeugwu’s decision to return to active political contest, describing his declaration as a welcome development given his long legislative experience and previous representation in the Enugu State House of Assembly where he served for 12 years, including eight years as Leader of the House.
Addressing the gathering, Ezeugwu thanked the people of the ward and the wider constituency for their warm reception and continued support. He encouraged his supporters and other interested citizens to register with the ADC, explaining that the registration process had been made easier as the membership cards had already been paid for by stakeholders, making it free for new members to join the party.
He emphasized the importance of grassroots participation in politics and urged residents to remain actively involved in shaping the leadership and development of the constituency.
The event attracted several respected figures from within and outside the constituency who came to lend their support and witness the declaration.
Among the notable personalities present were Engr Ken Nnadi, one of the aspirants, Dr Ukamaka Eze, Gen. Chris Eze (Rtd), Chief Eze Benjamin, Chief Frank Omeje (popularly known as Okenwa), Barr. Emeka Eze, Engr. Chris Ugwu (Doncris Udenu), Engr. Ken Nnadi, and Odo Linus (aka Lona).
Also in attendance were the ADC Chairman in Udenu, Hon. Ngwu Chimsimdirim Emmanuel, and the ADC Women Leader, Hon. Mrs. Ngozi Onah, who both expressed optimism about the party’s growing presence in the area.
Interestingly, the event also reflected a spirit of unity among leading figures within the party.
Rt. Hon. Ezeugwu, Engr. Chris Ugwu (Doncris), and Barr. Emeka Eze are among those aspiring to represent Udenu/Igboeze North Federal Constituency under the ADC platform. Despite their individual aspirations, the trio demonstrated solidarity at the event, with party stakeholders noting that the aspirants had agreed to support whoever eventually emerges as the party’s candidate.
According to party leaders present at the gathering, the understanding among the aspirants is aimed at ensuring that the ADC presents a strong and united front in the constituency.
Constituents and observers at the event noted that the enthusiastic response from constituents reflects the goodwill Ezeugwu has built over the years through his legislative service and engagement with the people, stating that He is a sure means to restore good governance in the constituency, the very job ADC has come to do for Nigerians.
In previous public discussions, including an interview on Signature TV’s Good Morning Show in 2025, Ezeugwu had emphasized the need for a more people-centered democratic process in Nigeria.
He noted that while democratic institutions exist in the country, they must be strengthened through greater participation and accountability.
“Our democracy has institutions but is crippled by selfishness, money politics, and elite capture. Until the people themselves take ownership of the process, democracy will continue to fall short of its promise,” he stated during the interview.
For many constituents present at the Udunedem gathering, Ezeugwu’s declaration represents an opportunity to build on his legislative experience while advancing conversations around responsive representation and grassroots-driven leadership in Udenu/Igboeze North Federal Constituency.
As the political landscape gradually begins to take shape ahead of the 2027 general elections, stakeholders say the event in Udunedem Ward signals the beginning of wider consultations and engagement within the constituency regarding the future of its representation at the National Assembly.
