_...As G-17 Pays Congratulatory Visit on Ambassadorial Appointment_
Enugu witnessed a significant moment of political alignment as former Governor of the state, Rt. Hon. Dr Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, formally endorsed the re-election of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for a second term in 2027 during a high-level visit by the grassroots mobilisation group, G-17 for Peter Mbah.
The visit, which took place at the former governor’s residence in Enugu, was led by the Director-General of G-17, Hon. Dr. Chinedu Mbah (Dike Eji Eje Mba), alongside key executives and stakeholders of the group, reflecting a growing convergence of political support structures across the state.
The delegation had visited Ugwuanyi to formally congratulate him on his recent appointment as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Greece by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, a development widely regarded as a recognition of his leadership record and service to the state and nation.
In his introductory remarks, Dr. Chinedu Mbah described the former governor as a pillar of stability and unity, whose tenure laid the foundation for continuity in governance.
He noted that Ugwuanyi’s appointment into the diplomatic corps was a testament to his track record, particularly his performance as governor, which earned him widespread respect and credibility.
“Your Excellency, your appointment is well deserved. It is a reflection of your exceptional leadership and the legacy you built while serving the people of Enugu State,” Mbah stated.
He further expressed appreciation to the former governor for what he described as the “gift of leadership” in Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, noting that his emergence has translated into visible and impactful development across the state.
Dr. Mbah also reminded Ugwuanyi of his longstanding relationship with the G-17, describing him as a foundational figure who has remained closely connected to its vision and structure since inception.
According to him, the purpose of the visit was not only to celebrate his new diplomatic role but also to formally present the G-17 endorsement register in support of Governor Mbah’s second-term bid.
In his response, former Governor Ugwuanyi expressed deep appreciation to the delegation for the visit and their show of solidarity, while commending the leadership and mobilisation capacity of the G-17 group.
He specifically praised the Director-General, Dr. Chinedu Mbah, for his resilience and commitment to grassroots political engagement, describing G-17 as one of the few support groups with a truly functional and far-reaching grassroots structure.
“G-17 has demonstrated strength at the grassroots. It is one of the few groups with the capacity and structure to deliver results, and I have no doubt in its ability to deliver Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah again and again,” Ugwuanyi said.
The former governor went further to make a clear and emphatic endorsement of Governor Mbah’s re-election, stating that his choice of successor has been validated by the current administration’s performance.
According to him, he has been deeply impressed by the pace and scale of development under Governor Mbah, noting that the administration has exceeded expectations across key sectors.
“I did not make a mistake in choosing Peter Ndubuisi Mbah. I am overwhelmed by his performance, and I fully endorse him for a second term,” he declared.
Ugwuanyi further stressed that the principle of zoning remains a firmly established political tradition in Enugu State, noting that it has played a critical role in maintaining balance, equity, peace and stability in leadership succession. He stated that Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah must be allowed to complete his full eight-year tenure, just as his predecessors; Dr. Chimaroke Nnamani, Barr. Sullivan Chime, and himself, were given the opportunity to serve out their terms. According to him, sustaining this established pattern is essential for preserving unity and continuity in the state’s political structure.
He also reaffirmed the political culture of continuity among Ndi Enugu, noting their consistent support for progressive leadership across successive administrations.
The visit further highlighted the growing alignment between influential political figures and organised grassroots movements such as G-17, reinforcing a shared commitment to sustaining development through continuity.
As the engagement concluded, the atmosphere reflected both celebration and renewed political resolve, with members of the G-17 group and stakeholders acknowledging the achievements of the former governor while expressing confidence in the ongoing developmental strides of the Mbah administration.
With 2027 on the horizon, the endorsement by former Governor Ugwuanyi not only strengthens Governor Mbah’s second-term bid but also signals a deepening consensus built on performance, structure, and widespread grassroots support across Enugu State.
