ENUGU: Orba Market Traders Rejoice, Hail Governor Mbah Over Approval of Remodelling, End of Daily Tolls

...Pledge Total Support, Massive Votes for Gov Mbah’s Re-election in 2027

...Applaud Gov Mbah on Abolition of Daily Market Tolls on Petty Traders

There was a wave of excitement and appreciation across Orba Modern Market as traders under the Orba Modern Market Traders Association (OMMTA) expressed profound gratitude to the Governor of Enugu State, Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, for what they described as transformative leadership, following the approval for the remodelling of the Orie Orba International Market alongside the abolition of daily revenue collection from traders without lockup shops.

In a moment filled with emotion and renewed hope, the market leadership described the governor’s intervention as a historic turning point for one of the oldest trading hubs in the area, which for years had operated without modern decking structures or adequate safety infrastructure. According to them, the governor’s swift approval of the remodelling project reflects a rare commitment to innovation, safety, and inclusive economic growth.

They noted that the planned decking of the market would not only modernize the trading environment but also significantly reduce the risk of fire outbreaks, improve structural safety, and create additional free shop spaces for traders who have long struggled with congestion and inadequate facilities. The traders further described the initiative as a long-overdue intervention that has finally brought government attention to their plight after years of neglect.

The association also poured encomiums on Governor Mbah for his decision to abolish daily market tolls on petty traders, describing it as a compassionate policy that has lifted a heavy burden off thousands of small-scale traders. They said the decision has restored dignity, reduced exploitation, and strengthened trust between government and the grassroots business community.

In a jointly signed press statement made available to journalists, the leadership of OMMTA expressed deep appreciation to the governor, describing him as an “innovative and visionary leader whose policies are redefining governance in Enugu State.” The statement further pledged the total support and loyalty of the traders to his administration, declaring their readiness to stand firmly with him in the coming 2027 general elections.

The statement, signed by the three key executives of the association, reads in part:

“We, the leadership of Orba Modern Market Traders Association, wish to express our heartfelt gratitude to His Excellency, Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, for his fatherly intervention in approving the remodelling of Orie Orba International Market and for the abolition of daily revenue collection from traders without lockup shops.

For years, our market has existed without decking or modern structural design, exposing traders to avoidable risks and limiting commercial potential. Today, under the innovative leadership of Governor Mbah, we have received approval for a comprehensive remodelling that will transform the market into a modern commercial hub. This includes decking, improved safety against fire incidents, and the creation of more free shops to accommodate traders.

We equally commend the Enugu State Ministry of Trade and Investment, for support and speedy approval of this life-changing project.

We pledge our unwavering support and loyalty to Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, an innovative governor whose leadership has brought tangible development to our people. We assure him of our votes and continuous support come 2027.”

The statement was jointly signed by;

1. Ugwu Brendan, Chairman of Orba Modern Market Traders Association.

2. Barr. Ngwu Nicodemus, Legal Adviser of OMMTA

3. Eya Dennis, Chairman of the Remodelling Committee (Orba Modern Market)

Speaking in separate remarks, traders at the market described the governor’s actions as “life-changing and destiny-shaping,” insisting that no previous administration had demonstrated such level of commitment to market development and grassroots welfare. Many of them were seen celebrating, singing praises, and offering prayers of gratitude for what they called a new dawn in Orba’s commercial history.

With the approval of the remodelling project and the abolition of daily levies, traders say confidence has been restored, hope rekindled, and the bond between government and the market community strengthened beyond measure.
