Historic Mega Rally: Awkunanaw Hosts Grand Tribute to Honour Gov. Peter Mbah’s Transformative Leadership
The people of Awkunanaw Clan in Enugu State have concluded arrangements to host a historic mega rally in honour of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, citing his exceptional leadership and far-reaching developmental strides across the clan as the driving force behind the celebration.
Addressing journalists shortly after a strategic meeting in Enugu, members of the Mega Rally Strategic Committee, including Rt. Hon. USA Igwesi, Chief Sir Nwabueze Nnamani, Rt. Hon. Iloabuchi Aniagu, Dcn. Okey Ogbodo, and Rt. Hon. Caleb Ani, emphasized that Governor Mbah’s governance style has redefined development through a deliberate decentralization approach that ensures no community is left behind.
They described the scale of projects executed within the Awkunanaw axis as unprecedented, expressing amazement at the Governor’s capacity to conceptualize and deliver numerous high-impact initiatives within a relatively short period of about three years.
According to the committee, the rally is designed as a collective expression of gratitude to the Governor for what they termed a “rare demonstration of visionary leadership and unmatched commitment to the welfare of the people.”
They highlighted that Awkunanaw has benefitted immensely from the administration’s flagship programmes, including the construction of 18 Smart Green Schools valued at over ₦18 billion, 18 Type II Primary Healthcare Centres worth more than ₦1.8 billion, the establishment of a modern transport terminal, and the planned development of 18 farm estates across the clan.
They further noted that the Governor’s infrastructural revolution has opened up previously neglected communities through strategic road construction, while the designation of Awkunanaw as an urban area under Executive Order No. 1 of 2025 has accelerated socio-economic growth within the region.
Calling for massive participation, the Chairman of the Media and Publicity Sub-Committee, Rt. Hon. USA Igwesi, urged all indigenes, residents, and stakeholders to turn out en masse to honour what he described as a “leader whose legacy will endure beyond generations.”
The rally is scheduled to hold on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at the Awkunanaw Civic Center, Akpasha, Akegbe Ugwu, Nkanu West Local Government Area, starting at 10:00 am, and is expected to attract a large turnout from across and beyond the clan.
Awkunanaw Clan comprises communities such as Akegbe Ugwu, Obuoffia, Amechi, Amodu, Umueze, Akwuke, Ugwuaji, and Obeagu, spanning Nkanu West and Enugu South Local Government Areas.
